October 21: Baburao Pullesurabapu Shedmake Sacrifice Day
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The ancestors of the tribal community fought for us so that we could fulfill their dreams, not so that we could destroy the unity created by our ancestors. At present, the tribal society is haunted by the ghost of politics. The sacrifices made by the ancestors are being forgotten by the intellectuals of the society which is not right. Let us know about Baburao Pullesurabapu Shedmake.
Baburao Pullesurabapu Shedmake, the brave martyr of the tribal community who was an expert in guerrilla warfare and sacrificed his life for water, forest and land at the age of just 25, was born on 13 March 1833 in Kishtapur. Father's name was Pullesur and mother's name was Jurjakuvar. His father Pullesur was the landlord of Aheri Ghot at that time. According to Gond tradition, Veer Baburao Pullesur Shedmake's early education took place in Likhai Ghotul (the center of education of Gond tribals) where he received the education of Gondi, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi etc. and received songs, music, dance and Koytur rituals. His father sent him to Raipur (presently the capital of Chhattisgarh) for further English studies. After studies, Shedmake came back to Molappally. After that they started married life. Shedmake saw that the British were looting. They are torturing the tribals. Along with this, they are engaged in spoiling the religious situation. When Chandrapur came under British rule in 1854, Shedmake raised his voice against the British. Shedmake adopted the policy of guerrilla war. In 1857, Shedmake formed an army of 500 Gond tribals and prepared them to fight. He drove away the British from Rajghad area with his army and captured it. Due to this, Collector situated in Chandrapur Mr. Crichton panicked and sent the British army to fight. But Shedmake's army defeated the British army in Nandgaon Ghosari itself. Mr. Crichton again sent the army but this time Shedmake defeated the British army at Sanganapur and Bamanpet. These two victories boosted Shedmake's morale. On 29 April 1858, he married Mr. at Chinchgudi. Attacked Crichton Telephone Camp. In this attack telegraph operators Mr. Hall and Mr. Gartland were killed. While Mr. Peter managed to escape from there. He informed Mr. about the entire incident. Told Crichton. Mr. Crichton used a diplomatic move to arrest Shedmake. On one hand he was asking Captain Shakespeare of Nagpur to arrest him and on the other hand he was pressurizing Aheri's landlady Rani Laxmibai to arrest him. Shedmake was not aware of this. Shedmake was arrested on 18 September 1858. He was brought to Chanda Central Jail. On October 21, 1858, Baburao Puleshwar Shedmake was hanged in the open field of Chanda. Martyr Baburao Shedmake, who fought bravely against the British rule at the age of just 25 to protect the water, forest and land of the Gondwana Empire, belongs to the tribal community. No, but it is inspirational for the entire nation. His bravery should be mentioned in the textbooks by the Central Government so that the future community can learn from it."
